Studio-based Images

Some of the work in this section has been done to commission and other paintings, based on drawings from observation, stem from familiar people and places.  I'm interested in the relationships between figures and landscape and most of these images contain figures however small  in scale.  I'm satisfied if I can convey a sense of place in most cases.

You will find a series of paintings of Victorian buildings in places that remain largely unchanged -such as Bidston Hill in Wirral.  Many of the figures in these compositions are taken from Max Ernst's collages of Claustrophobic Victorian Interiors.  I wanted to give these sinister little people another Victorian background ... outdoors in settings unchanged, in large part, since the nineteenth century.
